THEIR HAVE THEIR OWN COMPANY
Heather Christle
They carved my name in wood and I paid them
with cash and now the cash is gone forever
Five dollar bills goodbye you weren’t my family
Neither cash nor wood can be horrified
no matter what I do no matter how
I wear my sweater and I do wear it
in a number of appalling ways
They took my cash and they spent it
when they took their small vacation
and now none of us has any money
but at least they have their memories
and they have their marriage
and I can’t erase my useful wooden name
